WHAT IS MESOTHELIOMA?

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos. This disease, malignant cells develop, the mesothelium, a protective coating, which covers most of the internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura (outer covering of the lungs and internal and chest), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity), cardiovascular disease.
[1], pericardium (a sac surrounding the heart) or Tunica vaginalis. Most people who develop mesothelioma have to work jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibers in other ways. It also suggested that washing the family member's work on asbestos can make a person risk of developing mesothelioma.
[2] Unlike lung cancer, there is no association between mesothelioma and smoking, but smoking increases the risk of other asbestos caused cancer
[3] Compensation via asbestos funds or stocks is an important question of mesothelioma (see asbestos and the law).Mesothelioma symptoms include shortness of breath due to pleural effusion (fluid between the lung and the chest wall) or chest pain, and general symptoms such as weight loss. The diagnosis can be suspected with chest X-ray and computerized tomography, and is confirmed with biopsy (tissue shows) and microscopic examination. A thoracoscopy (by the addition of the camera tube the chest) can take biopsies.
It allows the introduction of substances such as talc and mask its pleural space (called pleurodesis), which prevents more fluid from accumulating and pressing the lungs. Although treatment with chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery, sometimes, the disease carries a bad forecast. Research testing for early detection of mesothelioma, ongoing
